Beaches

The Seychelles mainly consist of 3 large islands where there is a ferry connection, Mahe, Praslin and the smaller La Digue.

Mahe Island

It is the largest island where it also hosts the capital Victoria. During our trip we spent a total of 6 days in Mahe and visited most of the island  beaches.

We singled out the following:

  • Anse Mayor where you can go by boat from Beau Vallon or as we did with the amazing Anse Mayor nature trail. It is a signposted path that is quite easy and gives you magical images and views until you reach the beach.

  • Beau Vallon where is the most famous beach of the island with enough people and shops to eat. The sunset here is also amazing!

  • Petite Anse this is the beach of the 4 seasons hotel, but entrance to the beach is free, just make a reservation by phone the previous day from your hotel.

  • Anse Intendance huge beach in the south of the island with a nice bar to the left of the beach

  • Baie Ternay Beach beach one with the trees. You will need to leave the car and walk about 5 minutes. The road to the beach is a bit steep, you won't find any shops there, but for us it was one of the most impressive beaches we have ever seen!

  • Anse Royale beach near the airport with not very calm waters but enough restaurants and bars

Praslin Island

  • Anse Lazio the best beach we have ever been to!!! Wonderful waters, pure white sand and the granite rocks on the beach make up the dream beach. You will also see a wonderful sunset here.

  • Anse Georgettethe adjacent bay from anse Lazio with wonderfully calm waters where access is via the Mont Plaisir to Anse Georgette Nature Trail or from the Constance Lemuria hotel for free as long as you have booked one day in advance.

  • Cote D'Or Beach the central beach of the island with very shallow waters and no waves. This is where most snorkelling trips start and you will find plenty of restaurants and bars.

  • Anse Source d'Argent the most advertised beach is on the island of La digue with its huge beach rocks and crystal clear waters. This is where you will also find the transparent canoe to take the photo!!

Movements

Even if you rent a car, you will have to choose the island. distances are enough and in some cases even far depending on where you choose to stay. Most cars are automatic and you should drive from the right seat. It was also our first time, but after 1 hour you get used to it. The roads on the islands are fine. You won't have a problem with your diploma as long as it has Latin characters and the cost of the rental during the time we went was $25-30/day.

But most of the time there is no better transportation on the island. they didn't let you near the beaches.

There you will find the reference to moving between the islands: http/ /www.catcocos.com/ where it connects the islands together with a few routes. So go in and book your tickets online. There is also an air connection from Mahe to Praslin.

Contact

If you want to have internet everywhere on the island and not only at the hotel, there are 2 mobile phone companies (AIRTEL, CABLE & WIRELESS) in the Seychelles that offer tourist and domestic calls and internet packages.

At the exit of the airport you will find 2 kiosks from the companies and you can get a sim card. There they will set up your mobile and you will be ready to surf.

Currency - Credit Cards

The currency is the Seychelles Rupee where €1 corresponds to 13 scr.

We did currency exchange at the airport and also at shops in Victoria in the center of Mahe. The differences were minimal, you will also need cash in canteens, mini markets and guided tours, most restaurants, petrol stations and hotels accept credit cards.

Accommodation

In the Seychelles, staying in a hotel costs quite a bit since most hotels are on the sea and the cost starts from €200/day. If you want something more economical

there is always a solution, just book local small rooms that are a little further from the coasts. After we had rented a car we booked a wonderful studio in East View Self Cateringwith a great view and a pool on the cliff! The price is €75/night. We did the same in Praslin where we stayed at Diamond Plaza Praslin

We chose to spend one night in La Digue and stayed at the Rising Sun Guesthouse, you can if you want to take a day trip from Praslin but it's worth staying to dine at its beach restaurants and watch the sunrise on its deserted beaches!!

Climate - Weather

The climate is tropical with a constant temperature of 24-31c degrees. The best months to go are April - May and October to November when the intensity of the winds has stopped and the waters are clearer.

Food in Seychelles

In Seychelles the cuisine has been influenced by African as well as French and Indian. You will come across many curries that accompany fish or meat. Most restaurants belong to a hotel and you may notice the prices are high, so if you want to keep your budget low, choose local restaurants. Most restaurants open from 12:00 to 14:00 and then from 18:00 to 21:00 and it is advisable to make a reservation as seats are limited.

If you like local food then we suggest you also try the local canteens that you will find along the road where they serve really delicious food. Below we recommend restaurants that we ate at thespese and vfm!!

  • Marie Antoinette (Mahe) - standard menu where you try several dishes - book in advance

  • The Boat House Restaurant(Mahe) - for fast food and cocktails at Beau Vallon Beach

  • Tasty Corner Fast Food canteen at Port Launay beach try fish & chips

  • La Goulue(Praslin) the best local food of the island!!!

  • Cafe des Arts Praslin - choose it for an evening drink on the platform above the wave

  • Island Pizzeria (Praslin)- Feel like a local and go to this unique pizzeria!!!!!

  • Fish Trap Restaurant & Bar(La Digue) for fresh fish and seafood pasta

  • Le Repaire (La Digue)  for amazing Italian, you can also do take away at half the price.
