A few words about our trip...

Our trip to Dublin was combined with our visit to Amsterdam, Having a free week in December to travel we found a cheap one-way flight (Ryanair) from Athens to Dublin which we visited for 3 days and then flew to Amsterdam and back to Athens.

Info about Dublin

  • Home of the famous Guinness beer and many Whiskey distilleries ( Jamesson - Bushmills)

  • Currency -€-

  • Merrion Square Park where you will find the statue of Oscar Wilde and if it's a holiday, a Christmas light show starts as soon as it gets dark.

  • Stroll and shop Grafton Street with the biggest shops decorated amazingly, the street ends at the magnificent St Stephen's Green!!

  • Do a tasting of Irish spirits (whiskey) or at the Jameson distillery (click here)or try a large collection at the Whiskey museum (click here)

Food
  • It is famous and yes you must try the Irish breakfast, you will find many shops and bakeries serving it at affordable prices!!

  • The Irish stew where it is cooked meat usually in beer and is served by all the Pubs you will meet, they usually accompany it with Colcannon which is mashed potatoes with cabbage.

  • Dublin Coddle, with layers of bacon sausage and onions cooked like a stew, great to accompany your beer

  • And of course Fish & Chips, perhaps one of the best we've ever eaten

Recommended restaurants
  • Brannigans , pub great irish stew and atmosphere

  • The Wooden Whisk, we chose it for his breakfast

  • Daly's Of Eden Quay , nice pub for fast food and themed atmosphere

  • Beshoff O'Connell Street, the best fish & chips we've had

Our visit to Dublin was short but we walked enough to experience the pulse of the city and its Christmas spirit.. In Dublin most of the central buildings of the city were lit up and dressed up for Christmas while impressive lights gave the magical mood to every central pedestrian street. city.

The Irish seem to like decorating at this time of year as most of the houses we saw were decorated and we didn't see any markets with log houses outside. But a trip to Ireland is not only Dublin, since most of the beauties of the place are found in the countryside and in small towns that you will meet if you travel in the interior of the island...
