Montenegro - Kotor - Budva - Perast

In the "fjords" of southern Europe

First stop after the narrow opening in the Bay of Kotor we encountered the town of Perast. It is a picturesque town with the trademark of the artificial island that

hosts the panagia of the Rocks.

The island took about 200 years to build

and preserves the image of the Virgin Mary

where they found local fishermen there.

If you want to visit it the cost

from Perast is €10/person

for a distance of 5 minutes.

On its coastal road you will find several restaurants and cafes as well as hotel units. The view is unique as you see the water entering through the narrow passage and meeting the island of Agios Georgios and the Virgin of the Rocks. If you have started early for this excursion, we recommend that you sit down and enjoy your breakfast in one of the cafes in the area at the outdoor tables.

Kotor - Montenegro

Next stop and after a 20' drive the beautiful Kotor, hidden at the bottom of the bay with the huge mountains hiding and protecting it. Here in the summer you will see several cruise ships disembarking people to tour the old town of Kotor. Enclosed within its walls and with the Venetian castle at its top, which you can visit and admire the view.

The old town is entirely pedestrianized with beautiful buildings and café-restaurants. 2 churches are typical in it, the orthodox church of Agios Nikolaos and the Cathedral of Agios Tryphon, patron of the city. You will find a local market as well as the Kotor Bazar where it is a mini tourist market with souvenirs and handmade decorations. Let the narrow streets with the Venetian buildings go back in time and enjoy your walk exploring every corner of this beautiful city.

Budva - Montenegro

The last stop of our excursion is Budva, one of the oldest cities of the Adriatic, with a history of 2500 years.

Now it is also a highly touristic area with several beaches and huge hotel units, it hosts the biggest festivals of the country and in the summer it is flooded with tourists. An attraction of the area, however, is the old town of Budva within the walls where it could be described as a miniature of Dubrovnik. Characteristic are the 2 gates for entering the city and the Roman ruins nearby. The area has been declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

In the area you will find several restaurants on the beach serving local specialties with the main feature being seafood. The entire wider area of the Adriatic has some of the largest shellfish farms as well as fish farms. Don't forget to try the mussels "Buzara" and Crni Rižot

If you come in the summer months we would suggest taking the full day boat trip where it takes you to some of the nicest beaches and bays for swimming.

Prices throughout Montenegro were economical and the currency, although it is not a member state of the European Union, is the Euro
