Phuket

If you are interested in visiting a place with wonderful beaches, nightlife and countless activities then Phuket should be high on your list. Located in the south of Thailand, it is considered an island but is also connected by road to the mainland.

The main tourist place is inwestof the island where you will find the most beautiful beaches as well as the famous Patong beach which is the center of entertainment with countless nightclubs and restaurants. Staeastof the island you will find the town of Phuket, more traditional villages and not so touristic activities that you can do...

Beaches

Patong beach:

The most central beach of the island with the most life is Patong Beach, along the beach you will find restaurants, large fast food chains and outdoor markets with food and hawkers. The busy Thanon Bangla road ends in the center of Patong, where it is the center of Phuket's nightlife.

If you are a fan of water sports, here you will find a variety of all kinds of water activities as well as economical jet ski rental.

Also on the promenade and on the beach you will find several kiosks where they organize tours for all of Phuket, on your first day do your research because all the prices are negotiated there and book the one that suits your preferences.

Karon & Kata Beach

South of Patong we will meet the areas of Karon & Kata with their homonymous beaches. These are quieter beaches and are the areas you will choose to stay in if you want to spend your evenings in a room without the hustle and bustle of the night entertainment. The distance from Patong is 10-20 minutes and the hotels here are almost on the beach. You will notice that there is a high tide on these beaches and it is difficult to access from the afternoon onwards.  Also the above areas have night activity with their own night market, restaurants.

Kamala & Surin Beach

North of Patong 10 minutes away 2 amazing sandy beaches with restaurants serving their seafood specialties at tables on the sand

IMG_3916_edited.jpg

Yanui  Ao Sane & Laem Ga Beach

Beaches in the south of the island with crystal clear calm waters. Here you will not meet many people nor much organization but you will come to enjoy a tropical beach with plants reaching the beach. There is also a cafe on both beaches where you can get food, cold beers and soft drinks! In Laem ga (our favorite!!) you will go for the absolute tranquility, maybe you won't find anyone there and when we went to access the beach you had to pass through a private plot(touch hereto see the stigma)

Paradise Beach

The most commercialized beach here. With an entrance fee of 200baht, it will remind you of a Greek organization with sunbeds, loud music, a cocktail bar and everything has an extra charge, for details and prices, click here here.

Activities - Daytrips

The main attractions in Phuket will be seen mainly by speedboats on the tiny islands and the wonderful beaches. But also in the interior of the island we suggest you visit the following:

Phuket Big Buddha

At a distance of 40min from Patong there will be the statue of the tall white Buddha sitting on the top of the hill with an unlimited view of the whole island

Phuket town

Phuket town was a pleasant surprise for us as it is not that touristy and not recommended to visit. The old town and especially Thalang Road with its colorful buildings. The architecture is a mix of European and Chinese and is called Sino-Portuguese. Also every Sunday there is an outdoor market in the old city center. Also visit the monastery Thep Kajornjit Uthit Samakeetham Bureau of Meditation just outside the city.

Phuket lends itself to countless activities and day trips to nearby islands for swimming or exploring. You can find all of these in outdoor kiosks on Patong beach or look for them on the internet or ask your hotel who will be able to organize it for you.

Below we will write perhaps the most important ones and for your convenience by clicking on each excursion we have an indicative site with the excursion you can book.

Movements

In Phuket, the most common way of transportation is the three-wheeled tuk tuk that you will find around every corner. Prices are always negotiable...

We choose to rent a scooter in order to have the freedom to move where we choose to move. You will find enough motorbike-car rentals if you want to have your own vehicle but also your hotel can arrange the rental for you. Attention, the consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited for drivers, not even a minimum. There are quite a few breathalyzers on the streets and the fines are steep.

If you want to call a taxi through an application, then in Thailand the service_GRAB TAXI works which you can download to your mobile and call a taxi like (UBER - TAXIBEAT) and make your payment if you want by card.

Phuket airport to Patong

  5. Welcome Pickup(card name) $26

Contact

If you want to have internet everywhere on the island and not only at the hotel there are 3 provider companies in Thailand that offer Tourist Sim with fixed MB and calls at preferential prices. Below you will find a link to the packages that you can buy at the airport after picking up your luggage.

Currency - Credit Cards

The currency is Thai Baht where€1corresponds to 36 baht.

Exchange to choose not to do in very touristic places because there the exchange rate they give is not so good. Also choose to have large banknotes with you because they give a better exchange rate (€50-€100).

Credit cards work normally everywhere but before traveling inform your bank about the trip and ask how much the commission is for each exchange or withdrawal

Accommodation

I would say that staying in Phuket is difficult due to the variety and abundance of hotels or villas that you have to choose from. The cost is economical even for 4-5 star hotels.

If you have a means of transport it is good to stay in Karon - Kata or towards Kamala beach where it is calmer than the center.

If you have chosen the destination for a wild party then the choice is one-way and you will look for Patong beach

The hotels we stayed in were the following and they really were great and value for money

Climate - Suitable season

The climate is tropical so you won't find a rainy season.

Suitable season is from November to February where there is no monsoon. We have only gone in the summer all the times and we get a daily rain of 30' towards the afternoon and the whole other day nothing.

Krabi

Krabi is adjacent to Phuket at a distance of 140km from the airport and you could visit both places if you wanted to in the same trip. The connection is made either by road with minibus or taxi or by air to Krabi airport.

The main differences are that Krabi is not an island, its entertainment does not contain fancy clubs and the society here is mainly Muslim so you will see enough mosques to impress you. The tourist spot in the area is around Ao Nang Beach and that's where it all starts...

IMG_3895_edited.jpg

Beaches

gcy070.jpg

Ao Nang Beach:

It is the central beach of the area, along it you will find most restaurants and bars in the area. It is suitable for swimming and its waters are calm and not very deep. You will find arlettes of traditional longtail boats moored here and you will have the opportunity to take photos with the magnificent rocks that surround the beach

Railay Beach:

The beach  is only accessible by longboat from Ao nang beach with a cost of 100baht, it is a sandy beach with green water.

IMG_0627.jpg

Pai Plong Beach

It is located next to Ao Nang beach on the left and is the beach of the Centara Grand beach resort hotel. The entrance to the beach is from the hotel if you are a tenant or from a wonderful path the monkey trail. From the name it means that you will have to go through the monkeys whenever they can grab it is good to be in the bag and enjoy this short route and be on a beach almost alone...

phra-nang-beach-views-2020.jpg

Phra Nang Beach:

The most famous beach in the area and perhaps in Thailand is part of the ultra-luxury Rayavadee Hotel and can be visited on a day trip or longboat rental.

To the left of the beach you will also find the temple of fertility for the Thai Princess Cave and several phalluses in the sand.
Hat Noppharat Thara

It is located in the north in close proximity to Ao Nang and is characterized by several restaurants serving seafood and its beautiful sunset

Activities - Daytrips

The main attractions in Krabi will be seen mainly by speedboats on the tiny islands and on the wonderful beaches, but the interior of the island also offers you several unique activities...

Dragon Crest trail

This is one of the most beautiful paths on a verdant side of the mountain that we have made. At its entrance you can buy water for the route as well as there are guards where you leave your phone number if the time passes and you don't get off. The ascent took us about 2 hours and the descent a little less than 90 minutes. We wouldn't say very easy, but the view compensates you for what you spent.

Wat Tham Suea (Tiger Cave Temple)
& Emerald pool & Blue Lagoon

This is the one excursion we did inland that did not include an island or a beach. First station theTiger cave templeon top of the mountain. The degree of difficulty is high since we are talking about a vertical climb of 1260 steps and it is a global challenge for the tourist community. The route passes through monkeys until you reach the top where you will also see the monks...

At the entrance of the route there are other temples as well as some cafes where you can rest if you manage to complete the route up and down

The excursion continued to Emerald pool & Blue Lagoon

  • Locals call this place  Morakot which means emerald pool. Emerald Pool Krabi is located in the forest of the Khao Phra Bang Khram Nature Reserve in Khlong District, about an hour drive from Krabi Town. Emerald Lake is cool with the water fed by natural streams coming from the hill.

  • If you want to end your day in a relaxing way, a 30-minute dip in a natural jacuzzi with hydromassage is a must. Krabi Hot Spring is located in a beautiful small rainforest with streams flowing down to create a cascade of several natural pools of spring water. It's a super relaxing feeling with the warm water at a pleasant 35-42C..  Meanwhile the mineral salts of the spring water do their beneficial work for your skin. Later you can swim and cool down the river which is very pleasant after the hot spring!
