Basic information about your trip...

Visa Information

To enter the country, Greek citizens will not need a visa, but a visa of entry in their passport which should be valid for 6 months from the day of entry

For more information on entering the country visit the following site https://www.tourismthailand.org/home

Season - climate

The climate is tropical with a dry season and a dry season.

Suitable season is from November to February where there is no monsoon. Our trips have been made during the summer season and we definitely got rain but it was always short-lived and we continued our program..

Currency

the currency is  Thai Baht and 1euro is 36baht.

One of the exchange offices with very good exchange rates is SuperRich which you will also find at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Also choose to have large banknotes with you because they give a better exchange rate (€50-€100).

Transportation in the city

The most common way of transportation is the three-wheeled tuk tuk that you will find at every corner to hang around. Prices are always negotiable...

We recommend that you do not rent a car in Bangkok because the traffic is very chaotic. Choose to travel by subway (BTS & MRT) where you will find both daily and 3-day passes.

If you want to call a taxi in Thailand, use the GRAB app. which you can download to your mobile phone and call a taxi like (UBER - TAXIBEAT) and make your payment if you want by card.

There are ways to get from the airport to the city center:

  1. Bus: the S1 single at Gate 7 and costs 60 baht

  2. Train: by Airport Rail Link at a cost of 45 baht

  3. Taxi: with ticket from the vending machine and cost 400 baht

Internet - communication

If you want to have internet everywhere and not only in the hotel there are 3 provider companies in Thailand where they offer Tourist Sim with fixed MB and calls at preferential rates. Below you will find a link to the packages that you can buy at the airport after picking up your luggage.

Bangkok is one of the largest hotels in the world with hundreds of hotels. the budgets. We would suggest staying near a metro station so that your travels are easy and quick as most attractions are at metro stops.

Khaosan Road is where you will find most of the nightclubs. and the fun lasts until the morning hours. The area does not have a metro connection and the option to get there is by tuk tuk or taxi.

The hotels we have stayed at from time to time are the following and we were pleased with all of them.

thaifood

What is Thai cuisine?

Many people will probably describe Thai food as aromatic and spicy, but in reality it is more than that. Traditional Thai food should have a balance of salty, sweet, sour, salty and spicy.

Over the centuries, Thai cuisine has been heavily influenced by Thailand's neighbors, mainly from India, Malaysia and Indonesia. The western influence has passed into the kitchen as well.

The chili pepper that is so important in domestic cuisine is not a native product. It was introduced by the Portuguese and Spanish and was originally from the American continent.

5 dishes you must try during your visit

  • Tom Yum Goong

Also known as tom yam, this sour and spicy soup takes its name from two words - tom, which refers to the boiling process, and yam, which means mixed. It is often cooked with shrimp (goong or kung), hence the popular variation tom yum goong (or kung).

  • Pad Thai

Without a doubt, pad thai is the most famous dish in this Thailand food guide. It is probably the first thing many travelers will look for on their first trip to Thailand.

Pad thai is a stir-fried rice noodle dish usually made with chicken, shrimp, tofu, peanuts, scrambled eggs, bean sprouts, and other vegetables. The ingredients are mixed in a wok before being flavored with a sauce of tamarind juice, fish sauce, palm sugar, dried shrimp, garlic and red chilies. When ready, it is often topped with crushed roasted peanuts and served with lime wedges.

  • Som Tam - Green papaya salad

Som tam, like tom yum goong and pad thai, is a favorite Thai food and one of the best dishes you can eat in the country.

Som tam is made with grated unripe papaya and a mixture of other ingredients such as chili pepper, fish sauce, palm sugar, dried shrimp and rice crabs in brine. Sour and hot dominate, although it is seasoned to have a balance of five tastes – sour, spicy, salty, salty and sweet.

There is also a whole cuisine on Street food in Thailand with different recipes.Mainly you will see dishes dominating based on noodles - fried rice as well as small straws with seafood and meat. The small wonderful crepes as well as the famous Ice roll ice cream have their place of honor.

Our advice is to try as much as your appetite can handle, the prices are very cheap and the main thing, all these markets are not made for tourist purpose, they belong to the culture of the peoples in SE Asia and you will see countless local people shopping everyday.

If you plan to spend more than 3 days in Bangkok, then you should leave the center of the capital and go to the suburbs. You will find some of the main attractions below. For all places there are organized tours where in most cases they have pick up from your hotel or from Khao san road.

  • Ayutthaya Historical Park

Founded in 1350, Ayutthaya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was once the capital of Siam. It flourished from the 14th to the 18th century and became one of the worlds largest urban areas and a center of global diplomacy and trade.

Unfortunately, it was destroyed by the Burmese army in 1767 and was never rebuilt. Today, its ruins are among the most popular day trip destinations from Bangkok, with the Buddha head embedded in a banyan tree being one of its most recognizable sights.

  • River Kwai and Death Railway

You have probably heard of the 1957 film The Bridge on the River Kwai. It won several Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and is set during the construction of the Burma Railway in 1942-1943. Also known as the Death Railway, this is the bridge mentioned in the film.

Built by the Empire of Japan to support its forces in the World War II Burma campaign, the Death Railway got its name because its construction led to the deaths of an estimated 100,000+ civilian laborers and Allied prisoners.
